Sydney L. Steele, born September 6, 1939, in Martinsville, Indiana, graduated from Purdue University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and from Indiana University School of Law in 1964 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.

At Purdue University, Mr. Steele was named to the mechanical engineering honorary society, Pi Tau Sigma, and served as President of his Senior Class and fraternity. While in law school, he was elected a member of the Indiana Law Journal and President of the Student Bar Association. He graduated in the top twenty percent of his class.

Upon graduation from law school, and admission to the Indiana bar, Mr. Steele entered the United States Army, where he served in Germany with the Seventh Army. As an officer in the Army Ordnance Corps he supervised a fifth echelon tank repair shop and field calibration of artillery weapons. He also served as post legal assistance officer. Mr. Steele was honorably discharged from the Army in 1967 with the rank of Captain.

Returning to Indiana to practice law, Mr. Steele joined Ice Miller Donadio & Ryan as an associate attorney. He remained with Ice Miller until 1970 when he joined with his fraternity brother from Purdue, Bob Lowe, and Max Gray to form a new law firm, eventually named Lowe Gray Steele & Darko. From 1970 through 2002, while a partner with Lowe Gray, Mr. Steele's practice concentrated primarily in construction and business law and litigation, including complex construction matters and class actions.

On January 1, 2003, Mr. Steele joined the firm of Kroger Gardis & Regas, LLP, as a partner and senior counsel, to continue his practice of construction and business law and litigation. Kroger Gardis & Regas, formed in 1937, is an established law firm with the highest caliber of attorneys and assistants. The firm has more than twenty attorneys, most of who focus on commercial and business litigation, including major commercial workouts and class actions. The firm has available the latest legal research resources and technology and is staffed with qualified paralegals and others to better serve its clients.

Since 1970, Mr. Steele has appeared before state and federal courts throughout Indiana and elsewhere, and developed a special knowledge in the fields of complex construction, business and commercial litigation and arbitrations. He has served as lead counsel on numerous major cases, including construction and business disputes and class actions.

Mr. Steele is licensed to practice law in all the state courts in Indiana, including the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. He is also licensed to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a certified Neutral with the American Arbitration Association.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, including the Litigation Section and Construction Law Forum, the Indiana State Bar Association, including the Litigation and Construction & Surety Law Sections, and the Indianapolis Bar Association. In 1982, Mr. Steele co-founded the Indianapolis Law Club, an association of experienced litigation attorneys who meet regularly to stay current on developing law, evidence and procedures.

Mr. Steele has also been active in his community outside of the practice of law. He served as President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Columbia Club, where he is now serving as its General Counsel and Parliamentarian. Mr. Steele was also President of Big Brothers of Central Indiana and member of its Board. He served on Mayor Richard Lugar's Task Force on Black Capitalism, and is now serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Leadership Development.
