Thomas J. DeRue, Jr., focuses a significant portion of his practice on the representation of municipalities and other units of government. Since being admitted to practice law in 2000, Tom has served as counsel to a wide range of governmental entities including the owner and operator of the professional sports and convention facilities in Indianapolis, numerous cities and towns, plan commissions, councils and boards of commissioners. He has represented units of government and private enterprises in public/private agreements, privatization of public services, real estate redevelopment projects and the consolidation of units of government. Tom is also experienced in utility and regulatory law, and public finance.

In addition to his municipal practice, Tom maintains an active real estate practice where he counsels individuals and companies in real estate development, economic incentives, rezoning of property, as well as leasing, and financing. Tom also regularly serves as counsel in business formations and day to day corporate counseling.

Prior to joining the Firm, DeRue practiced in the governmental services and business/real estate practice groups of a large Indianapolis firm, was the Vice-President of Land for Beazer Homes, and also served as in-house counsel for Duke Realty, the largest vertically integrated real estate developer in the county.
